Patterns of town forms in history (developed by restrictions and benefits of movement)
- Rectilinear (derived from agricultural socities)
- Circular (derived from herding societies and implemented by military installations)
Types of development
- Street Front: Easy access to units, uniformity or orientation, clearly defined plan.
- Common result is monotony- can be cured by varying setbacks and landscaped areas, particularly trees.
- End-On: Increases lot depth, more remote from traffic noise and hazards.
- Court: Encourages sociability, lower land cost per unit- encourages generous landscape areas.
